The Hippies of the 1960’s

Feminism, black power, and anti-war
These were the topics they were mostly for
Woodstock, petitions, protests on streets
Often shocked people out of their seats
The most radical group of the 1960’s
Oh what life would have been like without the radical hippies

Equal rights, and equal pay,
Women should have it every day
‘A Woman should have the right to choose
This is one movement we aren’t going to lose’
Voicing opinions and burning bras
this was a new sight people actually saw

Africans Americans, they have rights too
The black power movement, it definitely grew
“stop the war in Vietnam
We don’t agree with dropping those bombs’
‘Hey , hey LBJ
How many kids did you kill today?’

The Woodstock festival and the Summer of Love
When someone says “hippie” it’s what you think of
Hendrix and Joplin were very well known
Spreading the movement through their love of rock & roll
Everyone was equal during the 1960’s hippie age
And that was the style of life in which they chose to engage.

Just a Thought

Girls-

Don't be petty. Please. i beg of you. Stop acting like you know everything about everyone because you don't. And i know we are all guilty of acting in this manner, but tone it down. Don't pretend you're best friends with someone if you aren't. Just be friendly. And i know we can't all be friendly, so if you can't, just don't be rude. We're all stressed and can't deal with the inconsiderate,so please don't be one.

Oh and Boys-

Don't act like you're the best thing ever because you're only fooling yourself. If you could only see yourself right now you would be 'oh so embarrassed'. And don't parade around your ex-girlfriend with your new girlfriend on your arm because it will only make your ex sad. Yes sad. Not all girls get mad, just sad. You're just hurting someones feelings, and then you'll look like a huge jerk, and it eventually backfires on you. All you are doing is causing problems and we need as little problems as possible. Don't try to act tough, because some of us know you, have seen you at your wimpiest of days, and know that its all just an act. And if you can't do that...just don't make us cry

So spare us the act its not working anyway.

Just a thought.

What Makes a Great Concert?

The screams of the crowd are overwhelming as your favorite music artist steps to center stage with guitar in hand. Loud music begins to play as even more screams and excitement come from the stands. Great concert, huh?

What makes a great concert? Music artists are constantly criticized over their performances. As we hear every week from Simon Cowell on American Idol, performance is everything. An artist just can’t be a singer, they have to be a performer as well. Are people just blessed with the ability to perform, or is it something that can be taught?
So what makes some concerts better than others? What has Elvis, The Beatles, and Madonna had that made them music icons and some of the best performers of all time? In this article we’ll dig deeper into understanding what makes a concert and a performance worth attending.
“ I like concerts outside, There’s something freeing about seeing a live performance outside, especially when the weather is nice.”-Heather , 19
Everyone has a different opinion on what makes a great concert. However, there are several factors to any show that stand more important than others. Are these things on your list on what makes a good show?

(1) Music-Lets face it, the music is the main reason we buy tickets to a concert. If there was no music, there would be no show at all. The actual songs the artist sings are usually the reason why the artist is known.

(2) The Crowd-The screams of the crowd are half of the fun of any good show. The feeling that you get after a concert when your throat is sore from cheering shows that you were a great concert. An artist with a really big fan base usually has a great crowd. You want to have a really energetic crowd in order to get the party started.

(3) The Environment-You wouldn’t go to a rock concert at your grandmother’s house would you? Probably not. Most people find that a performance’s location makes the performance more fun. 19 year old Heather told Sweet Reads, “ I like concerts outside, There’s something freeing about seeing a live performance outside, especially when the weather is nice. Having good weather at a concert is like icing on a cake. It makes the day perfect.”

(4) The Special Effects-Fire, smoke, LCD screens, multicolored lights. These things make a good concert ten times as exciting as any typical one. The opening sequence to any good concert has some great special effects. Whether a light shines and a curtain drops, or the artist rises from the bottom of the stage, special effects are key.

(5) The Souvenirs- Every good concert has good souvenirs. Everyone knows this. Even though most shows have ridiculous prices for souvenirs, it’s almost a necessity to buy at least a simple black T-shirt. If it’s a really great show, you might even want to purchase a cute messenger bag or hoodie as well.

(6) The Friends –Friends. Family. Whoever you want. The people that you attend a performance with are a crucial part of the concert experience. You want people who are fun and aren’t afraid to let loose and have a good time. Close friends are great to go to performances with. You can sing and dance, and they won’t find you annoying, they will probably be joining in with you! Plus, close friends are perfect to go to concerts with because you can sing along and talk about your favorite concert moments.

Concerts Let You Bond!
“ I went to the Fall Out Boy concert this past year, and I found out that a girl in my Nutrition class went too. One day, I struck up a conversation about the concert with her, and now we’re best friends! We liked the concert so much that we both went to the Jonas Brothers concerts a few months later.”-Melanie, 15

(7) The Aftermath-The ringing in your ears. The sore throat. That constant beat in your head. If you don’t have any of these things by the time you exit your concert, it wasn’t as good as you thought!

People like all different kinds of concerts, but the factors that make any concert great are the music, crowd, environment, special effects, souvenirs, friends, and the aftermath. Pick a concert where these seven things are successful, and you will have a night full of singing, dancing, and a lot of great memories. No matter where you are, don’t settle for anything less than a great concert, they’re out there if you just look!

Have you ever wondered what your life will be like in four years? Who will you be friends with? What will your career be like? Will the things that are most important to you now still be important to you then? How will you have changed?

One Tree Hill: The Fifth season airs Tuesday, January 8th at 8:00 PM on the CW. This two hour premiere allows viewers to catch up on the lives of their favorite characters Brooke, Haley, Nathan, Lucas, Peyton, and Skills. The only catch, is that the show picks up four years later.

What will have changed? Well, Brooke is a fashion designer, Haley is a teacher who is still married to Nathan, who is now a star athlete, Lucas is a published writer and the new coach of the Ravens basketball team, Skills is his assistant coach, and Peyton (no surprise) is working at a L.A. record label. Oh how things have changed.

The cast of One Tree Hill is now treating this as a brand new series. The long-awaited season premiere is being treated as a pilot episode to a brand new show. The One Tree Hill cast has even added some new characters to spice up the show, including Britney Spears' ex-husband, Kevin Federline. (Now I know,I'm not the only who wonders how that will go)

Right now, people all around the country are sitting in suspense as the commercials of One Tree Hill : The Fifth season are aired showing how everything has changed. Will this be the best season ever? Or will this season be something that the viewers can't handle? Will the friendships from Tree Hill High remain? Hopefully, all these questions will be answered in the fifth season of One Tree Hill. Lets all hope that this season will be as intense and drama-filled as the others.

A Little Bit of Christmas

The first snow of the season. That magical feeling where everything is perfect. A warm blanket and a hot cup of cocoa is all that is needed as you sit on the couch and watch Rudolph the Red- Nosed Reindeer. Seems like December.

Yep. The holiday season is among us. It snuck up on us quickly this year, and now that it's arrived , we need to give it a warm welcome. Yes, the holiday's can be hard on everyone. Presents to buy family and friends, large amounts of cooking, cleaning, and even tons of projects in school, but we need to take a step back and appreciate the season.

Take a breather for just a short while and ponder upon what you really love about the Christmas season. Is it the powdery-white snow that blankets the grass? How about the lights decorated on houses in order to brighten everyone's day? Or, is it the look of joy on that loved one's face while they open the gift you gave them?

Whatever you like about the season, should be embraced and exaggerated to the fullest extent. Don't hold back, for this time only comes once a year. It is a time of family, friends, and laughs with loved ones. So sit back and relax with the people you love, and embrace that wonderful feeling. Because it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

Gossip Much?

Wednesday night at 9/8 central. That's what everyone longs for . Teenage girls across the country pick up their remotes and turn the channel to the CW to watch what new drama will arise on the the CW's newest show, Gossip Girl.

Based on the New York Times best selling series by Cecily von Ziegesar, Gossip Girl has everyone talking . Produced by the creator of The OC , Gossip Girl is a TV show about overprivileged prep school teens in New York City. Everything in these teens' lives are glamorous. From the designer clothes they wear to the people they associate with, they, along with their parents, try to make their lives seem as spectacular as possible, even though that is not always the case.

Gossip Girl deals with issues just like every teen drama in the past. From friendship to love, to college, this hit show has every viewer on the edge of their seat. Yes, some episodes can be a bit intense, but that's one of the reasons we all watch. People return every week to discover several questions. Will the friendship between Blair and Serena be broken forever? Will Jenny turn into a Blair Waldorf of the world? Will Dan and Jenny's mother come back home? Each week viewers return in front of the TV hoping some of these popular questions will be answered.

But one of the best parts of Gossip Girl , is the fact that we can escape from the drama and gossip in our own lives and focus on a fictitious one . Sure, at certain times in these episodes people wish they lived the life of Serena, Blair, Nate, Chuck, and Dan, but by the time the episode is over, people leave the couch being thankful for their lives, and for the fact that Blair Waldorf doesn't go to their school.

Gossip Girl is one of the most popular shows for teens this year, and hopefully for the next. It's a modern twist on the classic teen drama, and keeps everyone guessing. So when your daughter disappears in front of the TV on Wednesday night, remember what it was like watching your favorite drama as a teen, and know that Gossip Girl is probably ten times better.

Kid Nation

CBS's new show Kid Nation caused much controversy before being released, but it seems as if many people have showed an interest in show lately. The first episode had over 9 million viewers, which is much more than anticipated.

The basis of Kid Nation is 40 kids trying to govern and make an old mining town, Bonanza City, succeed with the help of no adults. Throughout this show are arguments, tears, and even celebrated victories, all by the kids of Bonanza. Every few days the kids hold town meetings and award the hardest worker a gold star worth 20,000 dollars. Obviously, this seems to be the most heartwarming part of each episode. Watching a different kid every week, stranded from their home and family for 40 days, get awarded a gold star, and call their proud parents to tell them the good news, brings a tear to everyone's eye.

Although many say that this idea was hazardous to the kids' health, the kids say they were glad that they went through with the show and it was a good experience for all. So far, we haven't seen too much bad from Kid Nation. Sure, there have been many tears shed, but tears are also shed at summer camp. Kid Nation is a very interesting show that keeps everyone on their toes. Who knew a show about a whole bunch of kids could be so successful?
